Professional identity
About me
I do not assess technical solutions in isolation. I am interested in how they work in the hands of real users and within real organisations.
My research examines the relationship between technology, security and human decision-making. I study why users do not always act in line with their knowledge, how they assess risk and how security measures can be designed to be effective, understandable and usable.
Another strand of my work concerns the evaluation of information systems and digital services. I examine their quality, usability and value to users and organisations, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in expert and knowledge-based systems.
I connect these research questions with teaching and the supervision of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students. I expect independent thinking, methodological integrity and conclusions that reflect the actual strength of the evidence.
Research focus
Three pillars of my work
These areas are closely connected: security shapes user behaviour, usability determines a system’s practical quality and the organisational environment determines its real impact.
Cybersecurity and user behaviour
Authentication, security decisions, public Wi-Fi networks, risk perception and the gap between what people know about security and how they actually behave.
Information systems evaluation
The quality, usability and value of information systems and digital services in public administration and organisations, including evaluation methods and decision support.
Human factors, HCI and responsible AI
Trust, interface clarity, adaptive technologies and the use of AI in expert and knowledge-based systems, with an emphasis on meaningful human oversight.
Academic work
Research, teaching and supervision
At the Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Pardubice, I work in applied informatics and systems engineering. I see academic work as an integrated combination of research, teaching and responsible student supervision.
- teaching information systems, cybersecurity and HCI,
- supervising bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral research,
- publishing, peer review and editorial work,
- international research collaboration.
Approach
Empirical, critical and connected to practice
My work starts with data and transparent methods. I interpret findings within the limits of the research design and seek to translate them into forms that support further research, teaching and organisational decision-making.
Beyond academia
Active time and new places
I enjoy discovering new places, whether hiking, exploring cities or travelling by motorcycle. My other interests include inline skating, paddling and taiji. They provide an active counterbalance to academic work and time spent with technology and research.
Professional record
Academic qualifications and professional profiles
I have worked at the University of Pardubice since 2004 and have held the position of associate professor since 2013. My qualifications are recorded in the university profile.
2002 — Ing., Transport Management, Marketing and Logistics; 2005 — Ph.D., Informatics in Public Administration; 2013 — doc., System Engineering and Informatics.
